How to fix the PC Games that crashes few moments after starting it

Recently I came across a few PC games that crashed just a few moments after running the game. I tried a few fixes and it worked. Hopefully, it will work for you guys also. If you have already done

Computer config:

  • Intel CPU
  • NVIDIA GPU.
  • Microsoft Windows 10 OS

The gaming application crashes because the default Graphics and audio settings are not stable with the GPU driver or with the settings of the Operating System.

Issues that could be causing the game to crash are:

  • The game's default Display Mode is set to "Fullscreen". The game app could be having difficulty running in Fullscreen mode and may have compatibility issues with the OS.
  • The other Graphics settings are set to "High". High graphics settings could be causing a high load on the GPU.
  • The game app is running without an FPS limit. This will put a very high load on the GPU causing the game app to crash.
  • The game's default Display Resolution setting is high and the GPU cannot handle

You may be facing one of these two major situations :

1. You are able to start the game and Change the game's Graphics Settings

In this situation, you must first change the Game graphics settings.

  1. Set the game's Display resolution to match the resolution of the monitor.
  2. Set the game's Display Mode to "Windowed".
  3. Set the game's Graphics Quality setting to "Low".
  4. Set the game FPS limit if it has an inbuilt setting to limit the FPS. Otherwise use Nvidia Control panel or AMD Software Adrenalin Settings to set the FPS limit on the game.

Nvidia Control panel settings to limit the Max frame rate (FPS):
  • Select the "Manage 3D settings" tab.
  • Select the "Program Settings" tab.
  • Select the gaming application from the drop-down menu labeled "Select a program to customize".
  • Open the drop-down menu labeled "Max Frame Rate". and select option "On". Set the FPS to 60.
  • Select the "Apply" button.
Capping the maximum frame rate to 60 will lower the load on GPU. Now try to run the game application. Later on, you may set the FPS limit higher than 60.

2.You are unable to start the game and Change the game's Graphics Settings

If the Game crashes during the start and you are unable to change the graphics settings from within the game then there are some workarounds that you can use to change the game settings.

Change Game Graphics Setting Using NVidia Geforce Experience

If Nvidia GPU is installed, then Open the NVidia Geforce Experience.
  • Select the HOME button. If the game is supported by the Geforce Experience then it will be listed here.
  • Select the Game app.
  • Select the "Custom settings" icon.

  1. Set the game Resolution.
  2. Set the Display Mode to Windowed.
  3. Slide the game optimize slider to the extreme left towards "Performance".
  4. Click o the "Apply" button.

  • Try Launching the game. Now the game should start without any issues.

If the game crash issue still persists then you may do the following setting in the NVIDIA Control panel.

  • Open Nvidia Control Panel.
  • Select Display > Adjust desktop size and position.
  • Under the Scaling tab, select "GPU" for the drop-down list labeled "Perform scaling on".
  • Select Apply button.
