Media Player Classic Black Edition (MPC BE) + External LAV Filters

Tutorial on how to use external LAV Filters with Media Player Classic Black Edition.

 

 LAV Filters include LAV Splitter, LAV Audio Decoder and LAV Video Decoder.
Tutorial on configuring LAV filters.

 

  • OS : Windows 10 x64
  • Software : MPC BE 1.5.5
  • LAV Filters 0.74.1

  1. Install MPH BE.
  2. Download and install LAV Filters

 

 


 

  • Select "External filters"
  • Click "Add Filters"


 

  • Select "LAV Audio Decoder"
  • Click "OK"



 

 

  • Select "LAV Audio Decoder"
  • Select "Prefer"
  • Click "Add Filter"


  • Select "LAV Splitter"
  • Click "OK"

 

 

 

  • Select "LAV Splitter"
  • Select "Prefer"
  • Click "Add Filter"

 


  • Select "LAV Splitter Source"
  • Click "OK"





  • Select "LAV Splitter Source"
  • Select "Prefer"
  • Click "Add Filter"


  • Select "LAV Video Decoder"
  • Click "OK"


  • Select "LAV Video Decoder"
  • Select "Prefer"
  • Click "Apply



 LAV Audio Config

  • Open Windows Start Menu
  • Under LAV Filters click " LAV Audio Configuration"

 


  •  Select "Mixing" tab
  • Tick "Enable Mixing"
  • Tick "Don't mix Stereo sources"

 



Make sure you select correct Speaker configuration from the drop-down menu. Its more about wiring you are using to connect the computer to the speaker.
In may case its "Stereo" which is the most common scenario.
 
  •  Select "Stereo" from the drop-down menu for Output Speaker Configuartion
  • Click "Apply"  and "OK"


 

 

 LAV Splitter Configuragion

  • Open Windows Start Menu
  • Under LAV Filters click " LAV Splitter Configuration"

Here you can add prefered language for audio playback and prefered language for showing subtitles.

Only use first three letter of the language. Example : eng for English

  • To set prefered audio language as English set "Audio: eng"
  • To set prefered subtitle language as English set "Subtitles: eng"
  • Click "Apply"  and "OK"


 LAV Video Config 

  • Open Windows Start Menu
  • Under LAV Filters click " LAV Video Configuration"

 


 To select Hardware decoder of GPU to decode video file

  • Select "D3D11" as "hardware Decoder to use:"
  • Tick all Resolutions and Codecs for HW Decoding as shown below

 

 

 IF you want to select a particular GPU for decoding then

  • Under "Hardware Device to use"
  • Select the GPU from the drop-down menu. In my case it NVIDIA geForce GTX 1070 GPU
  • Click "Apply" and "OK"



Disable MPC BE Internal Filters

 

You may disable Internal filters to make sure that external LAV filters gets used by MPC BE. It not necessary to do it.

 1. Disable Source Filters/Internal LAV Splitter

  • Select "Internal Filters"
  • Select "Source Filters"  tab
  • Right click any Source Filter and select "Disable all filters "

 


 

 

 2. Disable internal Video Decoders

  • Select "Internal Filters"
  • Select "Video Decoders"  tab
  • Right click any video decoder and select "Disable all filters "

 

 

 

 3. Disable internal Audio Decoders

  • Select "Internal Filters"
  • Select "Audio Decoders"  tab
  • Right click any Audio Decoder and select "Disable all filters "
