How to Show/Hide Subtitle in Potplayer

Guide on how to Show or Hide a subtitle in Potplayer while a video playback.

 

• OS : Microsoft Windows 10 x64
• Software : Potplayer 1.7.21396

 

Its a good practice to rename the subtitle files with same name as the video file followed by subtitle language. This makes it a lot easier for Potplayer to load the subtitle file when the video file is being played. Also it looks much organized.

 

 Example : If the name of the video file is Star wars,  then the subtitle files should be named

• English subtitle : Star wars.Eng, Star wars.English, Star wars.English 1
  
• Italian subtitle : Star wars.Ita, Star wars.Ita 1, Star wars.Ita 2
• Russian subtitle : Star wars.rus, Star wars.Russian, Star wars_Russian
• French subtitle : Star wars.French

 

Loading the subtitle file

One of the First thing Potplayer does is search and load subtitles when a video file is played.

• Subtitles which are embedded in a video file automatically get loaded in Potplayer when it is played.
• Potplayer also automatically loads external subtitles according to the settings done by the user and adds it to a list of subtitles when a video file is played.
• User can also manually add external subtitles using Potplayer menu. To do so select Subtitles > Add/Select Subtitles > Add Subtitle. Search and select a subtitle file using File Explorer.
  

 

Selecting a subtitle track

When multiple subtitle tracks has been loaded, the next task is to select a subtitle to be shown along with the video file. Potplayer will automatically select a subtitle file according to the setting done by the user.

Additionally user can manually select a subtitle track when Potplayer fails to select a proper subtitle.

To manually select a subtitle track for showing do the followings:

• Select Subtitles > Add/Select Subtitles.
• Select a Subtitle track from the list of loaded subtitles. Check each loaded subtitles to find out which one is correct.
  

Showing a subtitle

The next step is to setup the Potplayer to show the subtitle. 

To Enable showing of subtitle during video playback do the following :

Method 1

•  Check the Show/Hide Subtitles 
  

 

Method 2

• Select Subtitles tab.
  
• Check the option Show Subtitles.
  

Hiding the subtitle

If you don't want Potplayer to show subtitles then to hide the subtitle during video playback do the following :

Method 1

•  Uncheck the Show/Hide Subtitles as shown below.
  

Method 2

• Select Subtitles tab.
  
• Uncheck the option Show Subtitles.
