Guide for Potplayer app startup Windows position settings which affects the position of Potplayer window in the desktop area when the Potplayer is opened.

Startup Windows size settings affects the size of Potplayer window in the desktop area when the Potplayer is opened.

OS : Windows 10 Pro x64
Software : PotPlayer 1.7.21295

There are multiple settings that govern the Potplayer window size.

When you enable multiple windows size settings then one of the settings will override other setting.

Potplayer Startup Window position settings

The Startup setting is located at General > Startup tab in preferences window.

The settings here affect the size & position of potplayer window when Potplayer app is started.

Windows Position setting has four options :

Last used position : Selecting this option will cause Potplayer to open at the position where the Potplayer window was closed the last time.
Centered position : Selecting this option will cause Potplayer windows to open at the center of the desktop.
Custom position : When this option is selected, Potplayer window will open at the specified location on the desktop.
Default position : When this option is selected, Potplayer window will open at the default setting location on the desktop. Generally the default position is the center of the desktop.

When Custom position is selected , user can set the potplayer startup position along the X axis and Y Axis on the desktop.

The top-right position on the desktop is origin point with location 0,0.

Potplayer Startup Window Size settings

Windows Size setting has four options :

Last used size : When this option is selected, Potplayer window will open with the same size as the potplayer window was closed last time.
Default size : When this option is selected, Potplayer window will startup with default size.
Fullscreen (Keep AR) : When this option is selected, Potplayer will startup with its video display area covering all of the display screen.
Custom size : When this option is selected, Potplayer window will startup with specified custom windows size.
Maximize ( to Desktop) : When this option is selected, Potplayer window will startup with windows Maximized to the desktop area .
Maximize ( to Screen) : When this option is selected, Potplayer window will startup with windows Maximized to the monitor screen area .

When custom window size is selected user have option to set the size of the Potplayer windows in X axis and Y axis during startup.

Enabling Restore window to its last state (Maximized/Minimized/Normal) will cause potplayer to restore the size of last used windows state during startup. It overrides the Windows size settings.

Potplayer Playback Window size settings

This setting located at Playback > playback Settings > Default window size

The setting done here will affect the size of Potplayer window during video playback.

Default window size options :

Do not use : When this option is selected, Potplayer window will not resize during video file playback.
0.5x video output size : When this option is selected, Potplayer window will resize to (0.5 x resolution of the video file being played).
1.0x video output size : When this option is selected, Potplayer window will resize to (1.0 x resolution of the video file being played).
1.5x video output size : When this option is selected, Potplayer window will resize to (1.5 x resolution of the video file being played).
2.0x video output size : When this option is selected, Potplayer window will resize to (2.0 x resolution of the video file being played).
Fullscreen ( Keep AR ) : When this option is selected, Potplayer window will resize to fullscreen mode while maintaining aspect ratio of the video file being played.
Fullscreen ( Stretch ) : When this option is selected, Potplayer window will resize to fullscreen mode and stretch the video being played to completely cover the screen.
Fullscreen ( Stretch by Keeping AR ) : When this option is selected, Potplayer window will resize to fullscreen mode and stretch the video being played while maintaining the video original aspect ratio.
Custom : When this option is selected, Potplayer window will resize to specified custom window size.
Fit to video aspect ratio : When this option is selected, Potplayer window will resize to aspect ratio of the video file being played.
Maximize (to desktop) : When this option is selected, Potplayer window will maximize to the desktop.

This setting will present in Playback > playback Settings > Default window aspect

Do not use : When this option is selected, Potplayer window will not resize during video file playback.
4:3 : When this option is selected, Potplayer window will resize to aspect ratio 4:3.
16:9 : When this option is selected, Potplayer window will resize to aspect ratio 16:9
Custom : When this option is selected, Potplayer window will resize to user specified custom aspect ratio.

Fullscreen Mode Settings

This setting is located at Playback > Fullscreen mode > When on fullscreen mode

Extend video image to : The setting is useful in multiple monitor scenario. The setting can done here to extend the video playback to second monitor.

Display : Here user can select the display monitor which will be used when potplayer runs in fullscreen mode.

Resolution : Here user can set the resolution of the display screen to which the monitor will be switched when potplayer runs in fullscreen mode.

Potplayer Window size keyboard shortcut

Fullscreen ( Keep AR) : Enter

Knowing the Potplayer Windows size shortcut can be useful in certain situation.

If potplayer window gets beyond the screen, then using the shortcuts user can bring it back to the visible screen.
